Osmio Active Ceramics Large · Single-stage whole-house filtration
Long-life Active Ceramics filtration for the incoming mains supply
The Osmio Active Ceramics Large system uses a patented blend of four ceramic media in one 4.5 × 10-inch cartridge. Installed at the point of entry, it is designed to reduce chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals and other unwanted substances before water travels around the property.
Compact point-of-entry treatment
Filtered water from taps and showers throughout the home
The system connects to the incoming cold main before the supply divides around the property. Its single large-format cartridge provides a straightforward option for homes wanting whole-house treatment without electricity, drainage or an automatic backwash cycle.
- One 4.5 × 10-inch Active Ceramics cartridge
- Four active ceramic media within one replaceable filter
- Published flow rate up to 40 litres per minute
- 1-inch BSP brass inlet and outlet connections
- No electrical supply or regeneration cycle required
Active ceramic media Combined in one cartridge
Up to 40 L/min Published maximum flow
Up to 300,000 litres Usage-based capacity guidance
Full-flow connections Female BSP brass ports
Patented multi-media cartridge
Four ceramic media perform complementary treatment functions
Rather than relying on a conventional carbon block alone, the cartridge combines four active ceramic media. Osmio positions the blend for broad contaminant reduction, mineral and antioxidant contribution, and a bacteriostatic environment inside the filter.
Performance note: Reduction depends on incoming water chemistry, flow rate, contact time and cartridge age. The manufacturer does not publish a percentage reduction for every listed substance.
Set the correct expectation
Filtration, scale conditioning and softening are not the same
The Active Ceramics system is intended for broad filtration and has a crystallising effect on hardness minerals. It does not remove dissolved calcium and magnesium in the way an ion-exchange water softener does.
Whole-home filtration
Treats the mains supply before distribution around the home.
Scale-conditioning effect
Designed to alter scale behaviour rather than remove hardness.
Not a salt softener
Choose a water softener when measurable hardness removal is required.
One large-format housing
A compact system designed for medium and larger homes
The 4.5 × 10-inch housing provides a compact footprint while retaining 1-inch full-flow connections. The current housing data gives dimensions of approximately 360 mm high, 190 mm wide and 185 mm deep.
- Reinforced polypropylene head and PET bowl
- Silver-based antimicrobial protection within the housing plastic
- EPDM bowl O-ring and pressure-release valve seal
- Maximum housing working pressure: 6 bar
- Working temperature: 4–45°C
Housing revision: Some legacy product information lists 340 × 180 × 180 mm. Allow additional space around the current housing and confirm the supplied bracket dimensions before drilling.
Plan before ordering
Installation details that determine real-world performance
Flow at the outlets depends on incoming pressure, pipe diameter, peak household demand and cartridge condition. These checks should be made before the system is fitted to the rising main.
Measure pressure and flow
Osmio advises against installation where standing pressure is below 1.5 bar. Confirm both pressure and peak flow at the property.
Control high pressure
The housing is rated to 6 bar. The installation guide recommends a pressure-reducing valve when incoming pressure exceeds 5 bar.
Provide a bypass
A three-valve bypass allows the filter to be isolated for cartridge changes while retaining an alternative route for the water supply.
Allow servicing space
Leave at least 2 inches below the bowl and sufficient working room to remove a heavy, water-filled housing safely.
Sediment control and servicing
Plan the post-filter and cartridge change from the outset
Osmio recommends a separate sediment post-filter on mains water because the Active Ceramics media can create small conditioned scale particles. Private supplies may require both pre- and post-filtration based on a professional water analysis.
- Bracket and housing spanner included
- Isolate and depressurise before opening the bowl
- Clean and inspect the O-ring at every cartridge change
- Use drinking-water-safe silicone grease on the O-ring
- Flush the nearest cold tap for five minutes after servicing
Long-life filtration
Replace by time, capacity or declining performance
The cartridge is published with a service life of up to three years or 300,000 litres. Actual life varies with local water chemistry, hardness, contaminant loading and household consumption, so the earliest service indicator should take priority.

Helpful answers
Frequently asked questions
Does the Active Ceramics system reduce fluoride?
The manufacturer lists fluoride among the substances targeted by the patented ceramic media. Reduction will depend on the incoming fluoride concentration, water chemistry, flow and cartridge condition; a fixed percentage reduction is not published for this system.
Is this a water softener?
No. It has a scale-conditioning effect but does not remove dissolved calcium and magnesium. Choose an ion-exchange softener when measurable hardness reduction and conventional soft water are required.
Does it make untreated private water safe to drink?
It should not be selected as the only treatment barrier for an untested private supply. Arrange a professional water analysis and specify any sediment, iron, manganese, UV or other treatment stages from the results.
How long does the cartridge last?
Osmio publishes a maximum life of three years or 300,000 litres. Replace it sooner if the capacity is reached, water quality changes or usable flow declines.
Why is a sediment post-filter recommended?
The ceramic media can condition hardness minerals and create small scale particles. A sediment post-filter helps capture these particles before the water reaches taps and showers.
Will every home receive 40 litres per minute?
No. The figure is a published maximum. Available flow depends on incoming pressure, plumbing diameter, simultaneous demand, cartridge loading and any additional filtration stages.
What pressure is required?
Osmio advises against fitting the system where standing pressure is below 1.5 bar. The housing maximum is 6 bar, while the installation guide recommends a pressure-reducing valve above 5 bar.
