Regal Flow hydrogen water guide
Hydrogen Water Benefits, Safety & Buying Guide
Hydrogen water contains dissolved molecular hydrogen (H2). Interest is growing, but the research is still developing and the products do not all perform the same job. This guide explains the evidence, the limitations and what to compare before choosing a hydrogen water bottle or purifier.
The short answer
Hydrogen water is ordinary drinking water containing dissolved H2 gas. Small human studies have produced some encouraging results, but there is not yet strong evidence that it treats disease or delivers guaranteed health benefits. Buy on measurable specifications, correct water treatment and practical suitability—not wellness slogans.
Start with the basics
What is hydrogen water?
Hydrogen water is water into which molecular hydrogen gas has been dissolved. Molecular hydrogen is written as H2. It is different from the hydrogen already bonded to oxygen in every water molecule, and it is not the same thing as changing the water's pH.
The dissolved hydrogen is colourless and does not turn the water into a filter, medicine or nutritional supplement. The base water still matters: a hydrogen-generating bottle should be filled with suitable potable water, while a combined purifier treats the incoming water before adding hydrogen.
Portable bottles
A rechargeable generator adds hydrogen to a personal serving of drinking water. Most bottles do not provide meaningful filtration.
Hydrogen purifiers
A countertop or under-sink system may purify the water first and then provide a hydrogen-enrichment stage.
Hydrogen tablets
Tablets react in water to generate hydrogen. Ingredients, preparation time and container instructions vary by product.
A balanced reading of the science
What does the research say about hydrogen water benefits?
Research has explored hydrogen-rich water in relation to oxidative stress, inflammatory markers, exercise performance and several metabolic measures. A 2024 systematic review of 25 human studies described the early findings as encouraging but concluded that larger studies with more rigorous methods are still needed.
A separate systematic review and meta-analysis of exercise studies found enough research interest to justify further investigation, but study designs, doses and participant groups varied. That makes it difficult to convert early findings into a reliable promise for an individual customer.
What looks promising
- There are published human trials rather than only laboratory research.
- Some studies report changes in selected oxidative-stress, inflammatory or exercise-related markers.
- Molecular hydrogen remains an active area of clinical research.
What has not been established
- There is no guaranteed benefit for every person.
- Hydrogen water is not proven to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.
- Small or short studies do not establish long-term clinical outcomes.
- Results from one concentration or device cannot be assumed for every product.
Our evidence standard
Regal Flow separates a product's measurable function—creating water containing dissolved hydrogen—from proposed health outcomes that remain under investigation. We do not treat preliminary findings as medical proof.
Use products as intended
Is hydrogen water safe?
Hydrogen-rich water has generally been described as well tolerated within published human studies, but the research base is not the same as long-term proof for every product, concentration or individual. Safe use also depends on the quality of the starting water, the construction of the equipment and following the manufacturer's operating and cleaning instructions.
Use suitable drinking water. A hydrogen bottle that is not a filter cannot make unsuitable water safe to drink.
Follow the exact care instructions. Charging, cleaning, water temperature, pressure release and membrane care differ between devices.
Check tablet ingredients. Hydrogen tablets can contain reactive minerals and other ingredients, so review the label rather than assessing only the hydrogen claim.
Keep expectations realistic. Do not replace prescribed treatment or professional medical advice with hydrogen water.
Avoid misleading comparisons
Hydrogen water compared with other drinking water
Regular drinking water
Hydrogen water
Reverse-osmosis water
Alkaline water
Carbonated water
A system can combine processes. For example, the Ayueness Ultimate and Kenda first use reverse osmosis and then provide a separate hydrogen-enrichment function.
Freshness matters
How long does hydrogen stay in water?
Dissolved hydrogen does not remain in an opened glass or bottle indefinitely. It escapes into the surrounding air, and the rate depends on the starting concentration, container, seal, headspace, temperature and how often the container is opened.
In one published study using specially prepared supersaturated hydrogen water, concentrations fell significantly during the first one to two hours after the bottle was opened. That result should not be treated as a universal expiry time for every machine, but it supports the practical advice to generate hydrogen water fresh, keep it sealed until needed and drink it promptly.
Make it fresh
Generate the amount you expect to drink rather than preparing large open batches.
Keep it sealed
Minimise unnecessary opening and empty air space when storage is permitted by the manufacturer.
Drink promptly
Follow the product instructions and avoid assuming yesterday's water retains its original output.

What should you check before buying?
1. The type of system
Choose between a portable bottle, countertop purifier and installed under-sink system before comparing individual models.
2. Measured hydrogen output
Look for dissolved-hydrogen figures in PPB or ppm, plus the test conditions. ORP alone is not a direct measurement of hydrogen concentration.
3. Filtration
Confirm whether the product only generates hydrogen or also filters the incoming water. Never assume one function provides the other.
4. Capacity and flow
A small bottle suits personal servings. A purifier is more practical for repeated household use and larger daily volumes.
5. Cleaning and consumables
Check cleaning instructions, filter replacement intervals, battery care and the availability of replacement components.
6. Warranty and support
Compare the product warranty and make sure clear UK-based advice is available before and after purchase.
Two different buying routes
Choose your hydrogen water system
The right choice depends on whether you need portable personal servings or a complete home water purifier. These products should not be presented as interchangeable.

Hydrogen water frequently asked questions
What is hydrogen water?
Hydrogen water is drinking water containing dissolved molecular hydrogen gas, written as H2. The hydrogen is added by a generator or produced by a suitable tablet reaction.
Does hydrogen water have proven health benefits?
Early human research has produced some encouraging findings, but larger and more rigorous studies are required. Hydrogen water should not be presented as treating, curing or preventing a medical condition.
Is hydrogen water better than regular water?
Both provide water for hydration. Hydrogen water additionally contains dissolved H2, but current research does not justify a guaranteed claim that it is better for everyone.
Does a hydrogen water bottle filter tap water?
Not necessarily. The Osmio H2Xagen generates hydrogen-rich water but is not a filter, so it must be filled with suitable potable drinking water. Check each product specification separately.
How long does hydrogen remain in water?
Dissolved hydrogen gradually escapes, particularly once the container is opened. The precise rate varies, so hydrogen water is normally best generated fresh and consumed promptly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Is hydrogen water the same as alkaline water?
No. Hydrogen water is defined by dissolved molecular hydrogen, while alkaline water is defined by a higher pH. A product may have both characteristics, but one does not prove the other.
Is hydrogen water carbonated?
No. Carbonated water contains carbon dioxide, which creates obvious fizz. Hydrogen water contains dissolved molecular hydrogen and is a different type of drink.
Should I choose a bottle or a hydrogen water purifier?
Choose a bottle for portability and personal servings. Consider a countertop or under-sink purifier when you want water treatment and a larger supply of hydrogen-enriched drinking water for regular home use.
