High-capacity automatic water softening for larger homes with up to nine people.

The Tapworks NSC14PRO is a metered cabinet water softener designed for larger households that need reliable softened water without constant adjustment. It monitors household water use and regenerates automatically according to demand, helping reduce unnecessary salt and water use compared with a basic timer-controlled softener.

With a maximum service flow rate of 53 litres per minute, a generous 45kg salt storage capacity and an EasyFit installation kit with 22mm connections, the NSC14PRO is built for busy family homes, multiple bathrooms and higher daily water demand.

Recommended for households of up to nine people. Household suitability is based on typical consumption of 140 litres per person per day at a water hardness of 300ppm.

Why Choose the Tapworks NSC14PRO?

Made for Larger Homes

Designed for households of up to nine people, making it suitable for larger families and homes with several bathrooms.

Demand-Initiated Regeneration

The electronic metered controller learns from water use and regenerates when required rather than relying on a fixed schedule.

Strong Household Flow

A maximum service flow rate of 53 litres per minute helps support simultaneous water use around a busy home.

Large Salt Capacity

The 45kg salt cabinet reduces how frequently the unit needs topping up and provides wide access for easier loading.

EasyFit Installation Kit

Supplied with an integrated bypass, check valve and flexible 500mm inlet and outlet hoses with 22mm push-fit connections.

Automatic Low-Salt Reminder

The controller includes a salt monitor and low-salt indicator to help prevent the softener running without sufficient salt.

Whole-Home Protection from Hard Water

The NSC14PRO uses ion-exchange resin to remove the calcium and magnesium minerals responsible for hard water. This helps stop new limescale from building up throughout the household plumbing system.

Softened water can help protect boilers, hot-water cylinders, showers, taps and household appliances. It also makes routine cleaning easier because soap and cleaning products work more effectively in soft water.

  • Helps reduce scale inside boilers, pipework and heating equipment
  • Protects showers, taps, kettles, washing machines and dishwashers
  • Reduces stubborn white deposits around bathrooms and kitchens
  • Allows soaps and detergents to lather more readily
  • Can reduce the amount of cleaning product needed around the home
  • Leaves laundry and towels feeling softer after washing

Automatic Metered Operation

Rather than regenerating on a fixed timer, the Tapworks NSC14PRO records how much softened water the household uses. Its controller uses this information to determine when the resin bed needs cleaning and recharging.

This proportional brining system adjusts to the household's demand. During periods of lower water use, the softener can become increasingly efficient as it builds a history of normal consumption. When guests stay or water use rises, it can regenerate more frequently to maintain the softened water supply.

The normal recharge time is set for 2:00am, when household water use is usually low. A manual recharge can also be started immediately or scheduled for the following night when required.

Easy-to-Use Electronic Controller

The control panel provides straightforward access to the main settings and operating information. Once the time and local water hardness have been programmed, the softener operates automatically.

  • Clear electronic display
  • Adjustable water hardness setting
  • Programmable regeneration start time
  • Recharge-now and recharge-tonight controls
  • Low-salt warning indicator
  • Integrated tank light for easier salt checks
  • Memory backup that retains the correct time for up to 48 hours during a power interruption

EasyFit Full Installation Kit Included

This Regal Flow package includes the Tapworks EasyFit all-in-one installation kit. The integrated bypass allows the incoming water supply to be switched between softened water and hard-water bypass without disconnecting the unit.

The supplied 500mm hoses use 22mm push-fit plumbing connections and are suitable for unvented and combination boiler systems when installed correctly. Reducers or additional fittings may still be required depending on the existing household pipework and installation position.

Installation Requirements

The NSC14PRO should be professionally installed close to the rising main on a sound, level base. The installation needs suitable access to an indoor electrical socket, a drain connection with the required air gap and a visible overflow route.

A pressure-reducing valve should be fitted where daytime pressure exceeds 5 bar. The softener and associated plumbing must also be protected against freezing. Tapworks advises against installing a water softener where lead pipework remains downstream of the proposed position.

A separate hard-water drinking tap may be required in exceptionally hard-water areas or for people following a low-sodium diet. Softened water is not recommended for preparing infant formula.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Tapworks NSC14PRO suitable for a large family?

Yes. Tapworks recommends the NSC14PRO for households of up to nine people, based on typical daily water use and water hardness of 300ppm.

Does it regenerate every night?

No. It is a metered softener that regenerates according to actual household water demand. The controller normally schedules the recharge for 2:00am when one is required.

What salt does it use?

Use tablet or pellet water-softener salt only. Granular salt and block salt must not be used.

Will it work with a combi boiler?

Yes. The manufacturer states that the softener and its 22mm installation kit are compatible with combination and unvented boiler systems when correctly installed.

How often does the salt need topping up?

This depends on water hardness and household consumption. The 45kg cabinet provides substantial storage, and the low-salt indicator helps show when more salt is required.

Does the package contain the installation hoses?

Yes. This package includes two 500mm hoses with 22mm push-fit connections, together with the EasyFit integrated bypass and the main drain and overflow components.

Will it continue working during a power cut?

The softener continues passing softened water but cannot regenerate without electricity. Its electronic memory retains the correct time for up to 48 hours. Following a longer interruption, only the clock should need resetting.

How quickly will the whole house receive soft water?

Softened water is available from the unit after installation, but replacing the hard water already held in a storage tank can normally take around seven days and may take longer in a larger home.
